Horseback riding tours in Folsom, CA

Horseback Riding Tours – relaxing, fun, overall a very pleasant experience. The four of us set off on what was our first guided horseback tour. We were not sure what to expect, one of us a former experienced rider and the other three little to no experience with horses. We showed up at the Shadow Glen Horse Stables about twenty minutes prior to our scheduled tour. We were greeted by staff that supplied us with waiver forms to read and sign. Looking off into the green pasture, around the coral and fencing you could see a variety of horses grazing, and others saddled up ready to go. Soon we were called over, asked a few questions, and then assigned with horses to match our individual sizes and riding ability.
There was a tour guide in the front of our small pack and one in the back following our single file line. The horses seemed well mannered and good-natured. Within minutes we were on our way. The guide bring up the rear of our group seemed very knowledgeable of the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area’s history, the trails we were riding on, and local wildlife. Having a well-informed tour guide made for good conversation during our ride. We were told the Stables were not usually open this time of year, but due to the changes in weather they were able to stay open year round. Although expecting rain, we were able to keep our appointment and have a very enjoyable ride. All of our horses were very well behaved. The horses were truly what you would expect from a trail horse; calm, gentle, and almost self guided. I felt the rates were reasonable; the scenery was nice and this made for a relaxing horse ride through the easy trails of California’s Folsom Lake State Recreation Area.
With views of Lake Natoma, water inlets, shrubbery, green hills, bike trails, and Sacramento’s Aquatic Center, there was plenty to view during our 1 hour tour. If you’ve never been horseback riding, it’s an excellent way to get acquainted with equestrianism. For this type of tour I recommend small groups. The max per tour is six people, plus when you’re in a single file line a small group provides you the ability to chat with members in your group.
